Training Class

Join Us! Become a counseling volunteer and offer information and support to other breastfeeding moms in the Philadelphia area!  We offer our training course twice a year– once in the Spring and once in the Fall.

Our next training class will begin January, 2017 and does involve a fee.

It is a 9 week course with 5 in-person classes. Class dates are: January 12, January 26, February 9, February 23, and March 9. You must be to attend all five in-person classes and have internet access to take the course. Classes meet in the Willowood Building at Abington Memorial Hospital Medical Center complex on Maryland Road in Willow Grove from 7-10PM

The NMAC counselor training course is designed to prepare students to counsel with one of our five local NMAC chapters. NMAC counselors must have breastfed for 6 months or more to take the course.  Non-NMAC breastfeeding counselors as well as medical professionals are welcome to take our course for an additional fee.

Required Class Text: Breastfeeding Answers Made Simply: A Guide for Helping Mothers by Nancy Mohrbacher. We strongly recommend you purchase the book on your own (e.g. through Amazon) so you will have it as a resource after class. If you will be counseling with a local NMAC chapter, we have a limited number of books to load. You must return the book at the end of the course to receive your training certificate.

NMAC Counselor requirements:
• Take assigned moms to counsel over the phone on a regular basis.
• Attend counselor meetings, a minimum of four moms’ meetings, and two study nights per year.
• Help with chapter fundraising efforts.
• Take on a chapter job and/or volunteer to head up special chapter projects.
